You can have the best looking 'white or whitish latinas' romantic with black guys in mainstream movies (Jessica Alba/Mekhi Phifer) and that's considered unoffensive? On IR sexuality, Amerikkka is not only still backwards, but also illogical. :? Guess that shouldn't be surprising, but still perplexing.

Hey troy,

I love "Honey" (I know don't laugh). It wasn't "Mystic River" but I thought it was a fun summer rental back in 2003 when I was interning in D.C at the U.S. Attorney's Office. Jessica Alba's character is Honey Daniels, a black girl from the Bronx. Both her parents are light-skinned Afro-American in this film, her mother was portrayed by Lonette Mckie from "Sparkle", "Queen" and "Jungle Fever". Andre Harrell of Uptown records had originally cast Aliyah Houghton in this role before her untimely and tragic plane crash in August 2001. If he had wanted her to be latina he could have given her the surname 'Diaz' or 'Diego', but he wanted her to be Afro-American specifically so he went with 'Daniels' and cast black actors as parents for Jessica Alba's character.

I would love to see some more Black men cast opposite Jessica Alba in future films, but like Jennife Lopez, alas it seems that is wishful thinking :(

Okay. But the point was the audience knew she's actually a latina. I wonder if a White starlet was in a movie that had her romantically involved with a black man and her character says she's 1/8 black, would that make the white audience be more comfortable?
