I'm afraid I have to disagree. The initiative behind an action, whether good or bad, and the moral qualities thereof, should be little more than universal. If what you have claimed in the latter statement is held true, then mass-murderers should be pardoned on the grounds that their moral beliefs differ from those who live a comparably impeccant life - which would be ridiculous to say the least.

Murder's an extreme example, so I don't know if it's the best one, but people steal and cheat all the time, so perhaps that's a better barometer of how morals have a sliding scale often enough. People have shown a remarkable ability for moral flexibility when it is in their own interest.
For example, hiring child labor in Pakistan may be legal, but is it moral?
Morals and the law often collide. People get swindled out of their life savings because they didn't read fine print. Nevermind that morally, these sorts of things shouldn't happen, but legally they're allowed.
Morals aren't fixed in most people- ideally they should be, but they are not- it is the reason we are forced to have a legal system to deal with things.
If people actually behaved closer to a uniform set of morals the courts would be empty and police would have nothing to do...

I did resort to an extreme example, but for mere emphasis. I understand that people do not conform to the same set of morals, but justifying a cause such as that aforementioned by CaseyCumz by casually stating that people have different morals is plain wrong in my humble opinion.

Right, and if you look through the thread, you'll see that I have no love for this action taken by Hydii May, but I oppose it not only on the moral grounds, but on the verifiable, factual reasons that may cause harm.
I do this because the moral high ground isn't an absolute.
Consider this; plenty of people don't like porn, period. Their answer would be to ban it altogether. Their moral stance would be it's degrading to women, presents harmful stereotypes, studies have shown that overexposure to porn can lead to extremes in sexual behavior, etc.
And they can make a very good moral case, but their legal standing would be very shaky.
And I appreciate living in a society of laws rather than morality because it makes it difficult to impose one's personal feelings. I mean shit, many moral minded folks still believe in miscegenation.
